When it comes to choosing locations to retire in, Florida is always a top choice amongst retirees. It is no surprise given the state’s good weather, where skies are sunny and it is breezy all year round. Match that with the picturesque scenery and the living experience there feels like a vacation getaway daily. With the many beautiful cities in Florida, it can be hard to choose one to settle down in. Today, let’s take a look at two of the most popular retirement options: Naples vs. Cape Coral.
Population
The larger of the two cities, Cape Coral also houses a much larger population of 200,972 as compared to Naples’ population of only 21,988. Despite the large difference in population numbers, the population density of both places does not differ much, with Naples at about 1800 and Cape Coral at about 1900.
Cost-of-Living
One of the largest differences between Naples and Cape Coral would be property prices. Naples is well-known for being a pricier, fancy area of the Sunshine State, and this reputation is for good reason. Although the city has many beautiful houses, the median home cost is roughly $400,000, which is way higher than Cape Coral’s median home cost of approximately $290,000. But fret not as much cheaper alternatives are available in the form of condos or even retirement communities.
The daily average cost of living for both locations is quite similar. However, it is worth noting that health costs in Cape Coral are slightly higher than that of Naples, while food and grocery costs are slightly higher in Naples than in Cape Coral.
Attractions
Both wonderful coastal cities, each boasts different exciting attractions and amenities.
A cultural hub located on the Gulf of Mexico, Cape Coral is teeming with activity. There are many parks and lagoons where one can get a nice tan. One can also experience waterfront dining and hit the shops at Cape Harbour. There are also many senior recreational activities such as day trips and Zumba sessions, organized either by retirement communities or city facilities like the Lake Kennedy Senior Center. Additionally, with the upcoming Village Square development, there is much to look forward to in Cape Coral in the near future.
There is always much to do in the vibrant and lively city of Naples. With their clothing boutiques and colorful buildings amongst the historical landmarks of the downtown area, Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South bring a little spice and energy to the city. For those who like their fresh produce, one can head down to the weekly Third Street South Farmer’s Market happening every Saturday morning. Older adults can likewise look forward to various senior activities in the city by retirement communities or the Naples Senior Center.
