We know, you've been spring cleaning for a long time. You probably don't need anyone to tell you how to go about it. With that in mind, however, we would like to at least offer up a few tips that could allow you and your retirement age loved one to go about spring cleaning safely and efficiently. Helpful hints, if you will.
Along with spring comes the promise of longer days, chirping birds, outdoor activities, and – finally – warmer weather. It's also the time to stop putting off what you've been delaying throughout the colder months. Namely: spring cleaning. If you think about it, spring is a good time to attack the cleaning projects you've been putting off, whether it's organizing a junk drawer or giving one room a thorough decluttering. It's time to get your residence feeling new and fresh!
Without further ado, here are the spring cleaning tips (helpful hints) we promised.
With COVID-19 still in the minds of many, sanitation has become even more important than it was before. In your home’s high-traffic areas, put a little extra effort toward sanitation.
The long-term buildup of all sorts of substances can occur in even the cleanest refrigerators. Completely empty your refrigerator at least twice a year. Make sure that any spills are wiped up immediately, if possible. Though quick cleans are great for keeping up, make sure that you deep clean any crannies and nooks frequently. Get rid of anything that's expired by doing a complete food check on a regular basis. Even freezer items need to be discarded after a certain period of time.
One of the most neglected areas in a home is the medicine cabinet. Check some of the dates on your cold medicines, pain relievers, allergy meds, etc. You may be amazed by how old some of them are. Clearly past their expiration.
Though you probably clean your floors on a pretty regular basis, it's a good idea to execute a deep cleaning whenever you can. Spring is a perfect opportunity. All winter long, people (and pets) brought in debris, salt, mud, and more. Though you might have mopped or vacuumed it up, it's time to really execute a deep-down cleaning. Need help moving furniture? Make sure to ask a friend, relative, caregiver, etc.
Now that the weather is nicer outside, it's time to clean the outer surface of the windows of your residence. But only if you can do so safely! Ask a friend, or relative, or hire someone to do it if you cannot physically handle it. Don't mess up the rest of your spring enjoyment and summer fun by getting hurt during window cleaning.
If you can do it safely, change out the filter on your air conditioner/heating unit. Though this should be done more than once a year, spring is a good time to remember the task. While you're at it, make sure you dust electronics, tabletops, shelves, baseboards, fans, and light fixtures. Again, use a duster with an extended handle rather than a stepstool to stay safe (or ask for assistance).
