When people realize you grew up in the ‘60s, they will ask you about many things such as the Vietnam War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, or the Civil Rights protests. Sometimes, you don’t have meaningful answers to those questions. But if you were a kid back in the 1960s, you will probably remember things like playing with your Easy-Bake Oven, drinking Tang, and watching the Beatles. Read on to learn more about the nostalgic things from the ‘60s!
Watching The Beatles
If you were a kid in 1964 and you had a television at home, you would have seen the Beatles make their debut on The Ed Sullivan Show. They played five songs in total, including “All My Loving”, “She Loves You”, “Till There Was You”, “I Want To Hold Your Hand”, and “I Saw Her Standing There”. Every one of them felt life-changing to you back then because it was.
Drinking Tang
Tang is not actually that appetizing. It is made out of an orange powder that you mix with water. Then, it turns into an orange-colored drink that tastes really sweet. Not that we cared about it as kids, but it is pretty unhealthy. The main ingredient in Tang is sugar, followed by fructose.
Watching American Bandstand
The American Bandstand was the must-see TV for every kid who grew up in the ‘60s. This show helped us to discover new artists such as Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Sonny and Cher, and Smokey Robinson. It also taught us many popular dance crazes like the Watusi, the Loco-Motion, and the Mashed Potato.
Watching TV on Huge TVs
People back then would never have imagined that the hi-tech flat-screen TVs of today were possible. Back then, TVs were huge and they were stored in the big wooden boxes that were big enough to be furniture. There was enough space on top of the TV for a family to have dinner together. It wouldn’t be possible to move the TV to another room unless you had many strong people to help you lift it.
Riding Banana Bikes
The banana bike looked like a chopper motorcycle because of the high-rise handlebars. It was easily the coolest ride around. Kids loved it because the padded seat allowed for a more comfortable ride and it was able to carry more than one person. The children who lived in the ‘60s are convinced that there is no better bike that brings you a more perfect childhood than this one.
