Are you nearing or at retirement age? Do you have a loved one who is seriously considering retirement? If so, think about whether you (or they) may want to retire in Naples, Florida.
Naples, Florida is situated next to the Gulf of Naples in southwest Florida. It’s about an hour south of Fort Myers. As far as airports go, Fort Myers is the closest major airport, but there’s also Naples Airport, of the small municipal variety. Retirees, visitors, and other residents can head east to the wilderness of the Everglades or access the rest of Florida by heading north.
What’s So Special About Naples?
Known for its high-end shopping, gorgeous sunsets, abundant golf courses, and pristine beaches, Naples is nothing short of a tropical paradise. It is, in fact, one of Florida’s most desirable retirement locations.
It brings the best of beautiful, white sand beaches, recreation, and shopping together in one place. If you’re a fan of any of those, or all three, you will offer little argument that Naples residents have it made!
Boutiques and high-end shops line the streets of historic downtown Naples. Championship-level golf courses litter the surrounding areas and some of the most stunning beaches you could ever desire can be found along the Gulf Coast. If you like to fish, this is an ideal location, as well.
How’s the Weather?
In answer to the question, well, it’s Florida.
No snow. No ice. No blizzards. You may have to deal with more humidity than you are used to, depending on where you’re from, but that’s why there is air conditioning. Expect summer high temperatures of low 90s, and in winter months, high 70s. Ordinarily, you shouldn’t see anything below the 50s, on average, even in winter.
Hotspots
Whether visiting, a new resident, or someone who’s lived in Naples for a long time, there are certain hotspots that should not be missed. Here are just a handful of them:
- Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens
- Naples Depot Museum
- 5th Avenue, South and/or 3rd Street, South
- Cambier Park

Finally, if it has the name “Naples” in it and it has to do with water (pier, bay, beach, dock, etc.), get your swimwear out, your snorkel, your fishing pole, or what have you, and spend the day there.
