Freedom, and all that goes with it, may well be the best part of retirement. For numerous individuals and couples, that means just sitting back and relaxing or spending time with family, traveling, etc. For still others, it can mean picking up and moving to Paradise – the sunshine State – a.k.a., Florida. No matter what part of the state you decide to call home, you will enjoy a vibrant retirement age community of active adults, accessible health care, and low taxes. But wait! Don’t pack your suitcase yet. You still have to decide what area of Florida you want to live in. Naturally, we have a suggestion.
We would like to offer, for your consideration, a little place called Naples. Why Naples, FL for retirement? The reasons are limitless, but in a nutshell: Why not? Truth be told, it’s perfect.
Naples is roughly an hour south of Fort Myers. It is situated next to the Gulf of Naples in southwest Florida. The closest major airport is Fort Myers but there is also a much smaller municipal one by the name of Naples Airport. Visitors, retirees, and others can head to the wilderness of the Everglades by going east, or head north to access the rest of the state.
Why Is Naples So Special?
Known for its pristine beaches, abundant golf courses, high-end shopping, and gorgeous sunsets, Naples is nothing less than a tropical paradise. In the entire state, it’s one of Florida’s most incredible retirement locations.
It offers the absolute finest in beautiful, white sand beaches, shopping, and recreation, all together in one place. If you’re a fan of all three of those activities, or just one, you’ll agree that Naples residents have it made. You could be one of them!
Lining the historic downtown streets of Naples are boutiques and high-end shops. Championship-level golf courses dot the surrounding areas and the most undeniably stunning beaches you’ll ever see can be found along the Gulf Coast. If you like to go fishing, boating, or sailing on occasion, this is the perfect location, as well.
So, How’s the Weather Down There?
There is no ice, no snow, and, in Florida’s southern parts, it seldom dips below 50 degrees, even in winter. Granted, you may have to deal with more humidity than you are used to – depending on where you hail – but that’s why there’s air conditioning in every building. Expect mid to high 70s in winter, and in summer, high temperatures of low to mid-90s.
Must-See Sites
Whether you’re a new resident, just visiting, or someone who’s resided in Naples for years, certain sites should not be ignored. Here are just a handful of them:
- Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens
- 5th Avenue, South and/or 3rd Street, South
- Naples Botanical Garden
- Naples Train Museum
- Naples Depot Museum
- Cambier Park
- Conservancy of Southwest Florida
Naturally, if the word “Naples” appears in the name of a site and it has to do with water (bay, pier, dock, beach, etc.), grab your swimsuit, get out your snorkel, unpack your beach towels, take your fishing pole, or what have you, and spend an entire day there.
